(CNN) -- Manchester City have been forced to halve the four-week fine they handed out to Carlos Tevez after the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) refused to sanction the move.

The English Premier League club had punished the Argentina international with a fine of a month's wages after finding him guilty of five breaches of contract for his refusal to warm up during a Champions League game with German club Bayern Munich.

Tevez was a substitute in Germany and City initially accused the striker of refusing to play but later downgraded the charges.

As such, the PFA, the union that represent players in England and Wales, insisted that a fine of two week's wages was the maximum allowed.

In a statement on their official web site City said: "Manchester City is disappointed by the apparent PFA conflict of interest evident in this process.

"Carlos Tevez has been personally represented throughout by the PFA chief executive, on whose considerations the club has been informed that the PFA has made its decision.

"Manchester City has been in constant dialogue with the PFA since September 28th. Today's PFA decision is a departure from the club's understanding of that dialogue.

"Without recourse to the PFA decision available, the maximum two-week fine provided for in standard player contracts will now be applied in relation to the misconduct of Carlos Tevez."

Tevez has not featured for City since the Bayern game in late September when the row with manager Roberto Mancini erupted on the touchline.

The Italian said after the game that Tevez had refused to come on as a substitute and also said the striker would "never" play for the club again.

Tevez insisted the incident was a misunderstanding, claiming he refused to warm-up because he had already done so. Tevez has been forced to train alone since the incident.

In his absence City have built up a five point lead at the top of the Premier League and recorded a 6-1 win at rivals Manchester United last weekend. They face Wolves on Saturday.

Tevez hit with massive fine after bust-up

Carlos Tevez has been left on the sidelines after a bust-up with manager Roberto ManciniCarlos Tevez fined four weeks wages by Manchester CityTevez fined for refusing to play in Champions League match against Bayern Munich Tevez has not played since the row with manager Roberto ManciniHe has said he would appeal the decision if the club found against him
(CNN) -- Manchester City star Carlos Tevez has been hit by a massive fine following his alleged refusal to play in their Champions League match against Bayern Munich last month.
A statement by the English Premier League leaders Tuesday night said the Argentina international striker would be docked four weeks wages.
Tevez was widely reported to be earning $400,000 per week, adding up to a total loss of wages of $1.6 million.
He has also been given a two-week suspension, but this was deemed to have already been served.
Tevez has not played for City since the September 27 bust-up in the Allianz Arena with manager Roberto Mancini.
Following a detailed investigation and associated hearing, a disciplinary panel has upheld a verdict of misconduct

The Italian was left fuming after he claimed Tevez would not come on as a second half substitute in the 2-0 defeat to the German giants.
Tevez insisted the incident was a misunderstanding, claiming he refused to warm-up because he had already done so.
The stand-off between the two men has seen Tevez left to train alone and disciplinary proceedings instituted by the club.
These have resulted in Tuesday's punishments as City found Tevez had breached five regulations, including "an obligation to participate in any matches in which the player is selected to play for the club when directed by a club official.
"Following a detailed investigation and associated hearing, a disciplinary panel has upheld the charge of misconduct," City said on their official club website.
"As a result Carlos Tevez has been fined four weeks' wages and has been suspended for a period of two weeks.
"He has received a written warning as to his future conduct."
Tevez has 14 days to decide whether to lodge an appeal to the club's board of directors and has previously said he would do so.
He could also take his case to the English Premier League.
The Argentine striker said in the summer he wanted a move away from Eastlands, but returned for the start of the season.
He may now get his wish in the January transfer window as the success of Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero has left him a marginalized figure at City, while Mancini said on the night of the Bayern incident that Tevez was "finished" with the club.

Tevez facing Man City disciplinary action

(CNN) -- Carlos Tevez will face disciplinary action from Manchester City after the Argentina striker's apparent refusal to come on as a substitute during a European Champions League match with Bayern Munich.

City said in a statement on Wednesday that Tevez, 27, had a case to answer in relation to "breach of contract", having conducted an investigation into the events which occurred during the club's 2-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena on September 27.

The former club captain was suspended by City following the incident, but the statement also confirmed Tevez was expected to return to training with manager Roberto Mancini's team on Thursday.

Tevez strike is sad for soccer

"The club has now reached a stage in its investigation where it has concluded that there is a case for Carlos Tevez to answer of alleged breaches of contract," read the statement on City's official website.

"Accordingly, the club has informed him that he will face disciplinary proceedings and the hearing will be convened shortly. Carlos will be required to report to Roberto Mancini for training on Thursday."

British newspaper The Guardian reported every player and coach interviewed during City's investigation refused to back-up Tevez's claims that the events in Munich were the result of a "misunderstanding" between himself and Italian coach Mancini.

The publication goes on to claim Tevez will be hit with a six-week fine, which could be as much as $2.3 million dollars given the former Corinthians star's alleged $392,000-per-week wages.

The multi-million dollar figure would represent the largest sanction ever handed to a footballer in Britain.

Tevez denied he had refused to take to the pitch against Bayern, saying in his own statement following the match with the German outfit: "I wish to state that I never refused to play.

"There was some confusion on the bench and I believe my position may have been misunderstood. Going forward I am ready to play when required and to fulfil my obligations."

Tevez suspended by Manchester City

One-time West Ham forward Tevez has been consistently linked with a move away from City over the past 12 months, after handing in a transfer request in December 2010.

The former Boca Juniors players also saw a move back to Corinthians fall through in July, with the Brazilian outfit claiming there was insufficient time to complete the deal before the close of the transfer window.

Tevez is yet to score for City this season having been their top marksman last campaign with 20 English Premier League goals.

The Citziens return to domestic action this weekend, with Aston Villa visiting the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
